Claudia Calderón (Puerto Rico)

Claudia Calderón is a Puerto Rican filmmaker with a background in music, communications and acting and more than 15 years of experience in the national and international film industry. Her work as a director includes the short film El año del cerdo (2007), screened at festivals around the world such as the São Paulo International Short Film Festival, the San Sebastian International Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival, among others, and which received several awards for best short film, direction, script and production design. Claudia has also received international recognition for the music videos she has directed for artists such as Bebo Dumont, Buscabulla and the Orquesta El Macabeo. In 2019 she directed Flor for Los Rivera Destino ft. Bad Bunny, voted best video of the year at the 2020 Lo Nuestro Awards. During the 2020 pandemic she directed and produced the comedy special Nasciturus, recently acquired by HBO for distribution. She is currently working on her debut feature, Gracias, vuelva pronto, a comedy drama that explores Puerto Rican identity in the face of the colonial system.

Gracias, vuelva pronto [co-written with Fernando de Peña Quiroga] Amalia and her friends work as tour guides by day and take it out with karaoke at night as they seek their personal independence in Puerto Rico, the world’s oldest colony.
