Gabylu Lara (México)

Gabylu Lara is a Mexican filmmaker who studied Communication at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, Stage Direction at the International School of Film and Television of San Antonio de los Baños, in Cuba, and Film Direction at the Prague Film and Television School (FAMU) with the support of the Mexican Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA). Gabylu has taken screenwriting workshops with Beatriz Novaro, Cecilia Pérez Grovas and Robert McKee. She has made four short films, two of which were selected for various film festivals around the world. In 2018 her debut feature film, American Curious, premiered in Mexico and in various festivals in the United States. Gabylu is also a director of advertising in Mexico and the United States and in 2015 she won the only Cannes Lions Grand Prix that Mexico has ever received, with a piece for P&G entitled Intimate Words. Gabylu is also a documentary filmmaker and has worked for the United Nations and the National Autonomous University of Mexico on important projects. She is currently developing her second feature film, El monstruo del olvido, on the subject of child sexual abuse.
