Javier Barbero (Spain)

Javier Barbero is a Spanish filmmaker who became interested in writing from a very young age. He started working as a camera assistant in feature films directed by filmmakers such as Jesús Ponce, Juan Miguel del Castillo and Ismael Morillo. In 2016 he started his own project and founded the production company Fourminds Films. From that moment he began directing and writing advertising content for brands such as Cervezas Victoria, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Televisión Española, Samsung or Wacom, but kept working also on fiction projects. Javier combines his work in the production company with his work as a screenwriting teacher and the continuous training he receives from great professionals such as Alberto Rodríguez, Fernando León de Aranoa or Fernando Franco. He is currently writing his debut feature film, La cuarta edad, while his latest short film, Los ojos de Érebo, is being distributed by Selected Films and has been selected for several national and international festivals, including the Granada Young Filmmakers Festival and the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival. In 2022 he will release Aurora y Antonio, a documentary short film about his grandparents, and he has just received funding from the Andalusian Agency of Cultural Institutions for La humildad, another short film he has written and will direct in 2021.

La cuarta edad Antonio, an old man who lives in a small village in the Sierra Nevada mountains, recovers his zest for life thanks to the unexpected visit of his granddaughter, whom he has not seen for several years.
