Masami Kawai (USA)

Masami Kawai is a Los Angeles-born filmmaker. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Cinema Studies at the University of Oregon. Her work explores issues of race, class, gender, and what it means to be an immigrant in the United States. Her films have screened at various venues, including the Rotterdam Film Festival, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Portland International Film Festival, and Indie Memphis. Masami received her B.A. from Hampshire College and her M.F.A. in Directing from the School of Theater, Film and Television at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
